Queen's Day Countdown.

Everyone, including us, has marked out their space for the vrijemarkt on Monday. Some people put discrete and neat signs in their windows, but mostly people mark the ground with their names or the word "Bezet" (occupied). It's common to use masking tape, which no-one removes and so the remnants are on the ground for weeks afterwards, or chalk - and then hope it doesn't rain.

The weather prediction is for lots of sun and warm temperatures - mid 20's which is really high for Amsterdam at this time of the year. The multicoloured artwork of my neighbours is safe.

With good weather and Queen's day falling on a Monday this will be a big party weekend in Amsterdam. The city is already full, with a lot of visitors from out of town, the bars have their orange streamers up, and lots of people have their boats out already. The boat at left was tied up on Prinsengracht waiting for the rest of their friends.
