Tip for Tourists #25386

When you are walking around the city and you feel like you're on the sidewalk/footpath with a lot of lovely space, just check that there isn't one of these painted on the ground where you're walking.

There are a lot of cycle paths in Amsterdam to serve the thousands of cyclists. If I cycle to work it takes me about 25 minutes and only about 2 minutes of that is not on a cycle path. Amsterdam cyclists figure that since it's a cycle path we'll have right of way and go fairly fast. If we see you in the way we'll ring the bike bell - standard issue on any Amsterdam bike - for you to move. You'll need to move quickly. Here are some more ways not to get hit by a bike.

PS: To the nice American lady in the blue jacket, I'm so sorry for scaring you!
